Lucas Ocampos seems to have made his last minutes in Ajax’s shirt. According to the Spanish ASH “everything indicates” that the Seville mercenary will return to his actual employer in the winter. Ajax rents Ocampos for a season until next summer, but that collaboration should therefore come to an early end. Sevilla coach Jorge Sampaoli has reportedly already given his approval.

There was a lot to do from day one around the transfer from Ocampos to Ajax last summer. The Argentinian would initially be taken over for twenty million euros, until the Supervisory Board of Ajax intervened. Ocampos, who had already arrived in the Netherlands at that time, boarded a plane to Spain again and saw the soap end in a rental deal of four million euros plus a purchase option of sixteen million. All parties seemed satisfied with this, but the opposite has been proven.

Ocampos has only played 114 minutes for Alfred Schreuder’s team since his transition. In the Eredivisie, his share was limited to four games, only once as a basic player. In the Champions League he was brought in twice with a total of fourteen minutes of play. Striking detail: Ocampos collected more playing minutes in the shirt of Sevilla (133) during the first three match days of LaLiga in August than in the remaining months at Ajax (114).

The small number of playing minutes in Amsterdam’s service is according to ASH an important factor for early rupture. The fact that Sevilla has not succeeded in getting a direct replacement is also cited. Although his adventure at Sevilla seems to be at a dead end, Ocampos scored nine goals and six assists last year. The arrival of Adnan Januzaj is not yet bearing fruit. Sevilla is disappointingly eighteenth and will compete against PSV in the play-offs of the Europa League. The diptych is scheduled for February 16 and 23.
