Feyenoord will not have access to Eric Botteghin for the time being. The Rotterdammers announce through official channels that the 33-year-old center-back will not be available in the coming weeks. Botteghin sustained a hamstring injury in the home game with FC Twente last Sunday and had to be replaced in the first half.

Botteghin started the game with FC Twente as a basic player, which eventually ended in a 1-1 draw. After 38 minutes of play, the center-back had to be replaced with a hamstring injury. The investigations into the seriousness of the injury have now shown that Feyenoord trainer Dick Advocaat will not have access to Botteghin for ‘several weeks’, who extended his expiring contract earlier this summer.

It means a major setback for Lawyer, who is not too wide in the center-backs anyway. With Uros Spajic, Feyenoord welcomed a new center-back last week, but the Serbian was not yet eligible to play last Sunday. Earlier, Lawyer also saw Sven van Beek drop out, while he also has three central defenders at his disposal with Marcos Senesi, George Johnston and Lutsharel Geertruida.

During the first league match against PEC Zwolle (0-2 victory) Botteghin was missing due to a suspension. Then Lawyer posted Geertruida in the center of the defense, while Bart Nieuwkoop played as right back. The experienced coach made the same change when Botteghin had to be replaced injured against FC Twente last Sunday.
