Footballers have many ways to unwind after the stresses of a big game, but Emil Hallfredsson’s hobby might just be the strangest of them all!
The Udinese and Iceland midfielder had reason to celebrate this week after helping his nation clinch their first-ever World Cup berth, becoming in turn the smallest country ever to qualify for a finals.
And he chose to mark that historic moment with a game of naked chess, as he donned just a pair of red slippers for the ancient board game.

“The art of chess wearing shoes,” Hallfredsson wrote on his Instagram to explain the picture, as he looked extremely focused – and extremely short of clothing – in the game.
Luckily a strategic lean shields the viewer’s gaze from anything more explicit, proving that the player at least knows how to protect his own rook from unwanted attentions!
