Paris Saint-Germain booked a tight victory in Ligue 1 on Saturday evening. Christophe Galtier’s team seemed to run into a downer again after the elimination in the Champions League, but Kylian Mbappé made the liberating 1-2 against the relegation candidate in the 91st minute. With the victory, PSG increases the lead over Olympique Marseille, which will play on Sunday, to eleven points.
Galtier opted for a 4-3-3 formation against Brest, where Marco Bizot defended the goal. Carlos Soler started as a hanging right winger, while Timothée Pembélé and Nuno Mendes could also count on a starting place due to injuries to Achraf Hakimi and Marquinhos. In midfield, 17-year-old Warren Zaïre-Emery was preferred to Vitinha, while danger came from Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé. The two were accurate in PSG’s last three league matches.

Messi had the chance to give the Parisians the lead after ten minutes, but the Argentinian star player completely missed the ball. Soler was then still close to the opening goal, but he had to see how his bet ended up on the post via Bizot’s fingertips. It was not convincing after this what PSG put on the mat. Messi, in particular, was not a shadow of himself. The attacker played sloppy and suffered frequent loss of possession.
Nevertheless, the visitors took the lead in the 37th minute. Mbappé first shot hard at Bizot’s fists from a distance, after which Soler managed to work the rebound into the goal via the bottom of the bar: 0-1. Nevertheless, Galtier’s men could not enjoy their lead for long, because Brest struck mercilessly from the counter. Mendes read ball loss on the sixteen of the home team. Romain Del Castillo then sent Franck Honorat away with a long through ball. The attacker remained cool and Gianluigi Donnarumma had no chance with a dry bang: 1-1.
PSG managed to create more chances after the break. Messi first shot wide and Bizot then made a strong save on goal attempts by Mendes and again Messi. Galtier seemed to run into a damper again after the elimination in the Champions League, but Mbappé still became the celebrated man in injury time. Messi sent the French attacker into the depths. Mbappé rounded Bizot before shooting the ball into an empty goal: 1-2.
