The fans of Olympique Marseille are under the spell of Cristiano Ronaldo. What started as a joke on Tuesday evening has now turned into a massive demonstration on Twitter of people hoping to persuade the Portuguese to join l’OM to come play.

The ball started rolling when Piers Morgan, an English analyst who gets on well with Ronaldo, announced that the next destination of CR7 could be a surprise. A Marseille fan then decided to post on Twitter, posing as a transfer journalist and announcing Ronaldo’s arrival at the Stade Vélodrome. Responses poured in, all under the hashtag #RonaldOM.

It started as a joke, but now many Marseille fans are posting homemade creations of the Portuguese in their club’s shirts (see example above) and Ronaldo is inundated with messages asking him to come to the south of France. The hashtag #RonaldOM even became the most popular in France. Many messages also refer to Erik ten Hag, who has to give Ronaldo permission to leave Manchester United and come to Marseille.

The future of the Champions League’s all-time top scorer is stirring the world of football. Ronaldo skipped Man United’s international tour and seemed to be preparing for a departure, but Ten Hag then reported that the two had had a good conversation and that he was counting on the Portuguese. Piers Morgan, quoted earlier, revealed on Monday evening that he expects Ronaldo will no longer play for United.
