Marco Asensio does not rule out a transfer to Barcelona in advance. The 26-year-old right winger of Real Madrid says in conversation with COPE not to know if the Catalans prey on his signature, like Mundo Deportivo reported on Monday. “We’ll see what happens,” Asensio said during a press conference for the Spain national team.

Asensio has an expiring contract and would therefore be in the serious interest of Barcelona. “I have no idea whether that is the case,” said the 29-time international. “I just know that there is interest from several clubs. I have not thought about Barcelona or considered it. There are a lot of rumors and speculation, that is normal. In seven months I can sign with any club and it is normal for clubs to inform, that will certainly happen.”

A move from Real Madrid to Barcelona or vice versa is extremely sensitive in Spain because of the rivalry. Javier Saviola was the last to make a direct transfer between the two superpowers in 2007 (from Barça to Real). Asensio can support the supporters of the Royal not reassure. “You never know, things can change very quickly in the football world,” the attacker said. “I can’t tell you anything else because I don’t know what’s going to happen.”

Asensio joined the Spanish national team on Monday as they prepare for the Nations League games against Switzerland and Portugal. The winger will hope for more playing minutes than he made at his club in the early stages of the season: just 51 in 9 games. “But I’m still confident that I can help Real Madrid and I want to keep winning titles with the club. There were options this summer, but I never thought about leaving. The coach’s confidence (Carlo) Ancelotti, ed.) was the key to that. He wanted me to stay.”
