Manchester United are close to ridding themselves of Mason Greenwood. The controversial forward, who spent last season on loan at Getafe, is set to complete a move to Olympique Marseille, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The deal between Manchester United and the French has been in the works for some time. Marseille's interest in Greenwood was first reported in June and now a deal is all but done.

Erik ten Hag's employer receives a generous amount of thirty million euros in advance for Greenwood. With a resale percentage of between forty and fifty percent, that sum can still increase considerably.

The youngster himself still has to reach an agreement with Marseille, although talks are already underway on the final details. The only thing that can separate Greenwood from employment in Ligue 1 is the medical examination.

Manchester United will therefore make a handsome sum from the sale of Greenwood, who had no future at Old Trafford due to the alleged assault and rape of his girlfriend Harriet Robson. Robson has since withdrawn all charges against Greenwood and she is even back together with him.

According to Transfer market the 22-year-old winger and centre forward represents a market value of 25 million euros. Certainly considering his contract runs until the summer of 2025, the fee paid for him is therefore not on the low side.

At Marseille, Greenwood will have to deal with Roberto De Zerbi as head coach. The Italian, who is praised for his playing style, left despite a current contract with Brighton & Hove Albion. The expectation was that he could sign for a top club, but nothing could be further from the truth when De Zerbi went to sea with Marseille.
