Manchester City are semi-finalists in the FA Cup. The leader in the Premier League and quarter-finalist in the Champions League settled on Sunday mainly due to a strong final phase with Southampton in the quarterfinals of the English cup tournament: 1-4. This allows manager Pep Guardiola’s side to still win the treble this season. Earlier on Sunday, Donny van de Beek’s Everton was totally no match for Crystal Palace, which triumphed at home with no less than 4-0.

Manchester City got help from Southampton in the twelfth minute, who couldn’t get the ball away in their own penalty area. Raheem Sterling took full advantage by sliding in the 0-1. In the remainder of the first half, the visitors were unable to extend the early lead. Southampton tied the score shortly before the halftime signal. Mohamed Elyounoussi came just before goalkeeper Zack Steffen came out on the back line. His pass flew somewhat happily and via Aymeric Laporte into Manchester City’s goal: 1-1. However, a stunt failed to materialize in Southampton, because the Citizens put things in order after rest.

After more than an hour of play, the ball hit the spot, after Gabriel Jesus had been pushed to the ground just inside the penalty area. It was then Kevin De Bruyne who restored Manchester City’s lead: 1-2. The tension was gone when Phil Foden saw the ball magically disappear just outside the box into the left corner in the 75th minute. Three minutes later, Riyad Mahrez also joined in the celebration with a close-up shot into the short corner: 1-4. Manchester City know what winning is all about and can continue to hope for the first overall victory in the FA Cup since 2019.

Crystal Palace – Everton 4-0
The not yet fit Donny van de Beek was not part of Everton’s match selection, which had nothing to contribute to Selhurst Park. Center defender Marc Guéhi inflicted the first damage on manager Frank Lampard’s team after 25 minutes, with attack leader Jean-Philippe Mateta doubling the lead in the closing phase of the first half. After the break, Palace cheerfully continued against the very poor Everton. In the 79th and 87th minutes, Wilfried Zaha and Will Hughes scored, leaving Everton with a beating from South London. Palace, like Chelsea and Manchester City, is a quarter-finalist. Liverpool will start the quarter-final match against Nottingham Forest at 7 p.m.
