Mohamed Buya Turay recently missed his own wedding due to his transfer to Malmö FF. His move from China’s Henan Songshan Longmen was announced by Malmö on July 22, while the attacker’s wedding took place a day later in Sierra Leone.

Malmö wanted Buya Turay to join the selection of trainer Andreas Georgson earlier and because the 27-year-old striker could not be in two places at once, he allowed himself to be represented by his brother during the wedding ceremony. Buya Turay did post three photos of himself and his wife on his Twitter account, but confirmed those photos were taken before the actual ceremony.

Buya Turay hasn’t been with his wife since he officially said yes. The pair hope to honeymoon later this year. “We got married in Sierra Leone on July 21,” Buya Turay tells aftonbladet. “But I wasn’t there because Malmö asked me to come here earlier. We took the pictures in advance. So it seems like I was there, but I wasn’t. My brother had to represent me at the wedding itself.”

Buya Turay has played in the Chinese Super League for Hebei China Fortune and Henan Songshan Longmen in the past two seasons, but already has experience playing in the highest Swedish league. He won the Allsvenskan in 2019 when he was loaned to Djurgårdens IF, where he also became the league’s top scorer with 15 goals. Buya Turay made his debut for Malmö in the Europa League on Thursday, coming in as a substitute in the closing stages of a 3-0 win over Dudelange.
