Bayern Munich has graced the national championship with a resounding victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach. A few hours after the defeat of RB Leipzig at Borussia Dortmund (3-2), enough for the 31st national title of der Rekordmeister, Hansi Flick’s team was 6-0 too strong for that die Fohlen. Tastemaker was Robert Lewandowski with three hits and an assist. The Pole is now, with two match days to go, on no fewer than 39 league hits and is thus only one goal away from Gerd Müller’s Bundesliga record in 1971/72: 40 pieces.

In the first 45 minutes, Borussia Mönchengladbach was the plaything of a very strong Bayern, which was the better in all aspects of the game and with a lot of football joy put a 4-0 score on the scoreboard. In the second minute of play, Lewandowski made his fastest Bundesliga goal ever: after preparatory work by Thomas Müller and David Alaba on the left, the Pole was able to take the ball unimpeded and aim in the far corner. Twenty minutes later, the 2-0 followed: Ramy Bensebaini slipped, after which the ball reached Müller via Kingsley Coman and Jamal Musiala. The German shot the ball with the left, via Denis Zakaria, behind goalkeeper Yann Sommer.

Lewandowski’s second goal, in minute 34, was absolutely there. The attacker took a pass from Müller in one go with a half bicycle kick and the ball disappeared into the short corner behind Sommer: 3-0. Just before the break, Lewandowski also played a role in the fourth goal of der Rekordmeister. Stefan Lainer lost the ball to Alphonso Davies, who delivered the ball to Lewandowski. The Pole had two men in front of him and gave the ball to Coman, who had the leather in the far corner: 4-0.

After more than an hour of play, minutes after the entrance of Leroy Sané, Leon Goretzka and Serge Gnabry, Lewandoski completed his hat-trick. The VAR noted a handball from Florian Neuhaus with a big chance for Bayern in the penalty area and the Pole did not fail from eleven meters: 5-0. Twenty minutes before the end, Javi Martinez and Tanguy Nianzou also came within the lines, but for the latter the game was already over after a few minutes when he pulled the emergency brake against Breel Embolo.

Despite the under-game situation, Bayern also made it 6-0: on a pass from Gnabry, Sané signed for the sixth goal five minutes before time. The remaining league matches with SC Freiburg (away) and FC Augsburg (home) will undoubtedly be dominated by Bayern to set the record for Lewandowski.
