Curaçao has said goodbye to national coach Art Langeler. The coach was only on the bench for three duels. The Curaçao Football Association (FFK) has decided to choose another national coach. Technical advisor Guus Hiddink is also leaving, although the Varssevelder has chosen to resign. Both were still stuck until mid-2023.

Langeler’s resignation does not come as a complete surprise. “A lot of things have not been arranged, that is part of the culture there,” said the former head coach of, among others, PEC Zwolle recently. “But a day later the sun comes up again and the weather is nice again. There is music and everyone is happy.” The FFK has now indicated that it would rather start the qualification process with another national coach for the 2026 World Cup.

The three games under Langeler’s leadership were all played in the CONCACAF Nations League (the Nations League for the Americas and the Caribbean). In it, Curaçao lost and won against Honduras, while Canada turned out to be much too strong. Langeler is not unemployed, by the way, as he is the ‘head of football development of the superstructure’ at FC Groningen. The name of ex-national coach Remko Bicentini is now singing around as a possible successor to Langeler.

Hiddink was also national coach of Curaçao on a blue Monday in 2020. His employment lasted two games, before a corona infection brought that adventure to an early end. Patrick Kluivert then became interim national coach, but that adventure did not last long. In his new role as technical advisor, Hiddink decided to choose Langeler.
