Milos Kerkez reassures the supporters of AZ on Twitter: the eighteen-year-old left back does not go to Ajax ‘for the money’. Kerkez made a definitive breakthrough in Alkmaar this season and made an excellent impression in Sunday’s top match against Ajax (2-1). However, the Hungarian-Serbian wing defender does not like a transfer to Amsterdam.

“Please don’t go to Ajax for the money,” said Florian, an AZ supporter, in a response to a post from Kerkez. The left back responds briefly with: “don’t worry“, followed with a wink. Kerkez is seen in Alkmaar as the successor of Owen Wijndal, who made the sensitive switch to Ajax last summer. The team from Amsterdam paid ten million euros and thus complied with the escape clause in Wijndal’s contract.

Kerkez has already been able to get used to AZ for six months, which took him away from AC Milan in January for about two million euros. The youngster surprisingly quickly conquered a starting spot this season and usually keeps his competitor Mees de Wit on the bench. On Sunday against Ajax, both players kicked off, as Pascal Jansen opted for a 3-5-2 system.

Rinus Israel, who watched the match on behalf of The Telegraph, was impressed by Kerkez. The former defender of Feyenoord believes that the left back of the Alkmaarders has a good future. “Physically not the strongest, but aggressive in the duels and nice on the ball. It is of course fantastic for a club if you can sell Wijndal and then already have the successor in house. Which is almost as good and maybe even better,” said Israel, who compliments AZ’s training and scouting.
