Juventus took revenge on Tuesday evening for Saturday’s defeat against Atalanta. The team of Massimiliano Allegri fought, with Matthijs de Ligt again in the base, to a 0-2 victory at low flyer Salernitana. Juventus played anything but great, but it was more than enough against the disappointing last, who commentator Emile Schelvis of Ziggo Sports was referred to as ‘by far the worst team in Serie A this season’. Paulo Dybala missed a penalty in injury time by slipping away.

Salernitana clearly started the game with the mission to limit the damage, as witnessed by the five defenders who were lined up. Yet the first chance came after fifteen minutes for the home team, when Simy came in front of De Ligt and headed just wide. Juventus also had the ball almost continuously and managed to shoot it against the ropes after twenty minutes. Paulo Dybala set up a one-two with Dejan Kulusevski and then found the bottom corner from the edge of the box: 0-1.

Seven minutes later, Juan Cuadrado shot a free kick at the post, after which Giorgio Chiellini tapped in on the goal line. However, the goal was disallowed, because Moise Kean appeared to have been offside very minimally. Juventus then struggled with themselves and only created a shooting opportunity for Rodrigo Bentancur, who came through somewhat fortunately and mowed wildly.

After rest could la Vecchia Signora even less convincing and Salernitana even came very close to the equalizer. A cross from the right bounced through Chiellini’s body into Juve’s penalty area, after which Luca Ranieri hit the post. It visibly offered Salernitana hope for more, but Juventus struck in the seventieth minute. Álvaro Morata cleverly tapped a low cross from Federico Bernardeschi from close by: 0-2. With that, the game was over and Juventus played the game out professionally. Dybala had another great chance after a brilliant combination with Kulusevski, but shot goalkeeper Vid Belec from close range. Symbolic for the match was that Dybala shot a penalty deep in injury time, partly because the Argentinian slipped.
