The analysts of Veronica Inside don’t understand that PSV goalkeeper Yvon Mvogo. The goalie, who was hired by RB Leipzig, blundered on Sunday when he made his debut against FC Groningen (1-3 win), by scoring a goal against Jorrit Hendrix with a wrong pass. Johan Derksen looks forward to the technical leadership of PSV, who, according to the former footballer, has let his ears hang out to coach Roger Schmidt.

Mvogo was obtained at Schmidt’s intercession precisely because of his footballing qualities. “That goalkeeper of PSV, we’re going to have a lot of fun with that,” laughs René van der Gijp. “He can’t give a shit. He won’t shout any more in a month from now”, predicts the former right-wing outside, who doesn’t understand that PSV necessarily wanted a ‘footballing goalkeeper’. “There are no ‘good footballing’ goalkeepers. The only thing you have with a goalkeeper is that he has a good kick. Manuel Neuer and that guy from Manchester City (Ederson Moraes, ed.), they have a great kick. But a goalkeeper who technically finds the right solution, there aren’t any, because otherwise he wouldn’t have been in the goal.”

Derksen is not impressed by the 26-year-old Swiss goalkeeper either. “He can’t play soccer, but he can’t keep goal as well”, Derksen notes. “Would he sit on the bench at Leipzig for nothing? In Leipzig they haven’t recovered from laughing,” says Derksen, who then turns to PSV’s policy. “There will be a German coach, and he immediately wants a goalie from the German league, because he has contacts there. And they didn’t have any top goalkeepers at PSV, but they did have two reasonable goalkeepers”, he means Jeroen Zoet and Lars Unnerstall. By the way, Zoet has now been sold to Spezia.

Derksen believes that directors Toon Gerbrands and John de Jong should not have listened to Schmidt. “At PSV they have a general manager, a technical director, they have a technical staff, and they all nod ‘yes and amen’ when a new trainer wants to get a second goalkeeper from Germany. What nonsense, what nonsense! And they have a goalkeeper from the selection of the Dutch national team (Sweet, ed.), they take him to a flutclub in Italy. A coach has nothing to want, those are passers-by. You have to have a goalkeeper who stops balls.”
