Brian Brobbey is happy with his personal performance against Almere City FC (2-2). The Ajax striker provided the assist for both goals and was through ESPN named Man of the Match. “I think I did well in this match,” Brobbey says in front of the camera of the said TV channel.
Brobbey fought a fierce battle with his guard Damian van Bruggen throughout the match. In the fifteenth minute, the Gamecocks got into a riot, with both players receiving a yellow card from Bas Nijhuis.
Brobbey enjoyed the battle with Van Bruggen. “They were certainly nice duels, all compliments to him too. Is he stronger than me? I think I won almost everything against him, so no.”
Ajax seemed to be on its way to a victory, but gave it away due to a clumsy tackle by Benjamin Tahirovic in his own penalty area. Nijhuis gave a penalty to Almere, which was used by Thomas Robinet.
“Of course it wasn’t smart, but I’m sure he will learn from his mistake,” Brobbey said of Tahirovic. “He was also important by scoring the first goal. He is a top player in my eyes.”
Brobbey speaks of ‘mixed feelings’ about the match in Almere. “We had a difficult time in the first half. In the second half we created some more chances. But we just had to win.”
Etienne Vaessen
On Saturday, RKC Waalwijk goalkeeper Etienne Vaessen made his return under the bar against Go Ahead Eagles (0-1 loss). The goalkeeper was injured in the head in a collision with Brobbey in the match against Ajax in early October. The Ajax striker has been in contact with Vaessen ever since.
“I saw him on the field again yesterday and when we drove to Almere with the players bus I also saw him on Facebook,” said Brobbey. “I’m glad he’s back. We have a lot of contact. I’m very happy for him.”
