It is becoming increasingly clear that Matthijs de Ligt is a serious option for Bayern Munich. Chairman of the board Oliver Kahn is generally satisfied with his club’s defence, but a player like De Ligt could add a lot to of the Rekordmeister† In addition to Bayern, Chelsea is also in the market for the the Dutch international, who seems to be leaving Juventus. The new owner Todd Boehly wants to make a statement with the arrival of the center defender, who will be in Turin until mid-2025.

“We are satisfied with the quality of our centre-backs,” Kahn said in an interview with kicker† To immediately add: “But we can certainly make further steps in the field of leadership, verbal qualities and presence.” Sports1 reported on Tuesday that De Ligt has already reached an oral agreement with Bayern after talks with trainer Julian Nagelsmann and technical director Hasan Salihamidzic. The mandekker has been a fan of Bayern since his youth and therefore wants to play for the German top club. It now remains to be seen how the negotiations between all parties go and what amount the Germans wish to deposit for the the Dutch international.

Rafael van der Vaart certainly sees a possible switch from De Ligt to Bayern: “It is a great idea from Bayern and Salihamidzic should really get the credit for that,” the analyst said in conversation with Sports1† “I would love it for Matthijs and it would also be the right step for him. He is a great player. He is still young (22, ed.) and a top-class defender with footballing qualities. And it is still once a good person. Matthijs would be a perfect fit for Bayern,” said Van der Vaart.

BILD added the name of Bayern to the list of concrete clubs on Sunday. The German sports newspaper reported that Juventus wants to see at least eighty million euros for De Ligt, an amount that Sky Deutschland could confirm. Bayern, however, would have difficulty coughing up amounts above sixty million euros without being able to sell itself first. In that context, Chelsea has an advantage.

However, De Ligt himself would rather move to Bayern. The reigning German champions already wanted to bring the mandekker to the Allianz Arena in 2019, but De Ligt preferred a switch to Juventus at the time. The fact that the club has kept in touch all along is said to be a testament to the benevolence the stopper is looking for. Moreover, his buddies Mazraoui and Gravenberch – whom he knows from his time at Ajax – are an important factor.

Meanwhile, Juventus is looking for a suitable successor to De Ligt. Sky Italy knows to report that they have thirty million euros left for the defender of Napoli. According to Il Mattino Koulibaly informed Juventus last month that he is not interested in an adventure there. The thirty-year-old stopper fears the same fate as Gonzalo Higuain, who made the switch from Napoli to Juventus in 2016 for ninety million euros. Due to the strong rivalry between the two clubs, the Argentine striker has been persona non grata in Naples ever since.
