Feyenoord would like to break open and extend Justin Bijlow’s current contract until mid-2023. The 23-year-old goalkeeper, together with his agent, already joined the board of the Rotterdam club. A final agreement has not yet been reached between the two parties, but Bijlow emphasizes at a press meeting on Wednesday afternoon that his intention is to remain loyal to Feyenoord.

“The club is working on it, I don’t want to say anything else about it,” explains Bijlow at the press conference in the run-up to the second match against FC Drita on Thursday evening in De Kuip. “I am very happy that the club expresses its confidence to me. The rest is for the agents.” The closing item does not exclude that he still opts for a departure from Feyenoord in the future. It is likely that Bijlow then opts for a foreign adventure, because a transfer to another club in the Eredivisie is not an option as far as he is concerned.

“I always want to achieve the highest attainable level and I see no other club in the Netherlands than Feyenoord, let that be clear,” said Bijlow, who recently saw Steven Berghuis exchange Feyenoord for Ajax. The closing post has had the necessary injuries over the years, but now finally seems to be the undisputed first choice under the bar at Feyenoord. The counter is now at 51 games on behalf of the club from Rotterdam-South. Bijlow even qualified for the Dutch national team in the spring, although then national coach Frank de Boer ultimately did not include him in the final European Championship selection.

For Bijlow, the contract negotiations seem to be a concern for a while, because the return match with FC Drita in the second preliminary round of the Conference League awaits on Thursday. “We know the importance of course. For Feyenoord as a club it is good to play in the Conference League. Of course you want to play Champions League or Europa League, but that did not work out. Now we have to perform well in this tournament and that starts on Thursday “, said the ambitious Feyenoord goalkeeper.
