Cyriel Dessers is close to a transfer to Cremonese, he confirmed on Saturday after the game between KRC Genk and Eupen (4-2). The striker started as a basic player in the meeting in the third round of the Jupiler Pro League and was taken off in the 69th minute of play. After the final whistle, Dessers took extensive time to thank the home crowd, while talking with sporza acknowledges that it felt like a farewell match.

“Was this a goodbye? Maybe a little bit”, Dessers opens. “It is no longer a secret that a transfer is close. There is a good chance that it will indeed be Italy. I can say that now. I have always dreamed of a top competition and that dream is now coming close. Tomorrow will be another important day, because then the clubs have to agree. I’m as curious as you are.”

“If I stayed in Genk, I might be able to compete for the top scorer’s title,” Dessers continues. “I’m ready for something new. I played football in Belgium and the Netherlands and saw all the stadiums and teams there.” In the first two games of the new season, Dessers already scored three times. The former striker of Feyenoord, among others, was accurate twice against Standard Liège, while he scored once against Club Brugge. In his suspected farewell game against Eupen, the attacker did not hit a target.

Last Wednesday it was already announced that Cremonese is willing to meet the asking price of 6.5 million euros. This would make Dessers 2.5 million euros more expensive than the amount for which Feyenoord could have raised its purchase option in June. In the coming days, the transfer to the Serie A club seems to be finalized.
