Corentin Tolisso sustained a serious thigh injury at Bayern Munich’s training on Thursday and the injury may well affect the French midfielder’s European Championship chances. L’Equipe reports that the Frenchman has been out of circulation for about three months, while BILD at worst assumes an absence of six months. In that case, Tolisso will miss the European Championship with the French national team anyway. Trainer Hansi Flick has now confirmed that the bad luck has been out for at least three months.

The 22-time international of France already had surgery in Berlin on Friday and the coming months will therefore be dominated by rehabilitation for the winger. It is not yet known whether Tolisso will be able to make his comeback at Bayern this season, which is in preparation for the away game against Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday afternoon. He seems to be falling from one injury to another in recent years. He had just recovered from a muscle injury. The attacker signed on Monday for a goal from Bayern in the spectacular home game against Arminia Bielefeld (3-3).

Tolisso has played 22 appearances for Bayern in all competitions so far this season. The former Olympique Lyon midfielder knew with der Rekordmeister recently seized the World Cup for club teams. In the final against Tigres (1-0) he came in as a substitute. His injury is a major setback for Bayern, which will start the eighth final in the Champions League against Lazio next Tuesday. Thomas Müller and Benjamin Pavard have been infected with the corona virus, while Douglas Costa, Serge Gnabry and Alexander Nübel are facing various injuries in the run-up to the European resumption.

The 26-year-old Tolisso last wore the shirt of France in October last year, in the Nations League match with Croatia (1-2 victory). In the three duels of les Bleus that followed, the midfielder made no playing minutes. National coach Didier Deschamps normally announces his final European Championship selection in May. France will take on Germany (June 15), Hungary (June 19) and Portugal (June 23) in the group stage.
