Matthijs de Ligt is very pleased with Leroy Sané. The 22-year-old centre-back has played against stars such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in the past, but it is Sane who has been the hardest to defend in an international match against Germany.

“Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are of course world class,” says De Ligt in an interview with kicker. “But the opponent that has given me the most problems so far was Leroy Sane in an international match with the Dutch national team against Germany (1-1) in March. “I had to cover him man-to-man all over the field and he was really everywhere.” As a brand new addition to of the Rekordmeister De Ligt recently met his new teammate during a Bayern trip to the United States. “Then I told him that too.”

Bayern paid €67 million this summer, excluding €10 million in bonuses to Juventus to sign the the Dutch international. However, De Ligt does not see the high transfer fee as a burden. “When you play for top clubs like Bayern Munich, you always feel pressure. Whether you are lent or not, that remains the same. It certainly doesn’t matter to me, because I always demand so much of myself that there is already enough pressure.”

De Ligt is getting used to his new environment at Bayern Munich. He says he already understands a little German and is training hard to get into the basic team of trainer Julian Nagelsmann as soon as possible. He is therefore looking forward to the start of the new season. “Bayern Munich’s playing style suits me in my eyes, because the team is attacking,” said De Ligt.
