In Germany people are very impressed by Xavi Simons. The national news is short of superlatives about the outstanding Dutchman, who guided RB Leipzig to victory against SC Freiburg (3-1) with a beautiful goal.

“Thanks to a feat by Xavi Simons, Leipzig has set course again for the Champions League,” writes Sports1. “With a spectacular individual action he gave the home team the lead.”

“Two super talents, two super goals,” headlines BILD. “The series continues, also because super magician Xavi Simons scores early again,” the magazine points to the statistic that Leipzig has never lost to Freiburg at home.

The second ‘super talent’ that the German newspaper is referring to is 21-year-old Merlin Röhl, who scored the only Freiburg goal with a beautiful solo.

“Leipzig didn’t need much time to take the lead,” writes Kicker. “After a dominant initial phase, Xavi shot the ball into the right corner in an inimitable way from 20 meters.”

Kicker rewards Simons with a 2 as a report mark, which is the second best mark in the German assessment system. The Dutchman is also included in the Bundesliga Team of the Week for the fifth time in eleven game weeks.

After his successful weekend in Germany, Simons can prepare for the international match. The Dutch national team will meet Ireland and Gibraltar in the last two matches of the European Championship qualifying tournament. In nine international matches, Simons has not yet found the net on behalf of the Dutch team.
