Mario Been advises Noussair Mazraoui not to move to Barcelona. The retired trainer thus addresses the rumors surrounding the 24-year-old right back of Ajax, who has announced that he will leave on a free transfer. “He would be an excellent fit for Bayern Munich,” says Been in football talk on ESPN.

Barcelona is being mentioned more emphatically around Mazraoui for the time being, but Been has his reservations. “Is that a step forward for him?” the analyst asks rhetorically. “I think there are other clubs as well. The Barcelona of today is no longer the Barcelona of years ago. For Mazraoui it is not a step forward, absolutely not at the moment. I do not like the number five in Spain that much better than the number one in the Netherlands.”

Been doesn’t see Barcelona recovering that quickly either. “If they have money, yes, but they are very much in the minus for the time being. I don’t think that would be a top step for him.” The former Feyenoord trainer, on the other hand, would understand if Nicolás Tagliafico switches to Barça. The 29-year-old left back also wants that, but Ajax is not cooperating for the time being. “At Tagliafico I understand it a bit,” says Been. “He goes to the club where the Argentine hero (Lionel Messi, ed.) has played for a long time, and he is also a bit sidetracked at Ajax.”

Marciano Vink does not recommend a specific club to Mazraoui, but gives the fullback a more general advice. “He just has to go and see where he can play,” says Vink. “There are plenty of examples that have gone to great clubs… but if you go somewhere on a free transfer, it’s a bit different coming in than they paid 80 million euros for you, in terms of how you are viewed by the club. Of course. Going on a free transfer for his own pocket of money is good.”
