Wim Kieft hopes that Erik ten Hag will soon stop ‘experimenting’ at Ajax. The former attacker is annoyed by the way the trainer puts his players in the team, he emphasizes in his column on Saturday in The Telegraph. “Who at Ajax taps Ten Hag on his fingers and says that he must put the players in the right place and stop experimenting?”, Kieft sighs in the newspaper.

According to Kieft, it is more like ‘a kind of prestige battle for Ten Hag’. “But Ten Hag’s stubbornness should not be at the expense of the result at Ajax. Zakaria Labyad falls short for the top position in Amsterdam ”, emphasizes the former Orange international. “The team is strongest with Dusan Tadic in the point of the attack and Antony and Quincy Promes on the flanks, or David Neres for one of those two.”

Kieft already considers the presence of Tadic in the point of the attack as ‘an emergency measure’. “Because they have not been able to train or collect an Ajax striker in Amsterdam for years. The midfield also does not function with Edson Álvarez and Promes, while Ryan Gravenberch is mainly young and talented for the time being. Which also applies to Mohammed Kudus. ” Kieft thinks Davy Klaassen’s return is ‘not so bad’ and wonders why Lisandro Martinez barely plays. “He did well last season and now suddenly finds himself on the reserve bench every game.”

“Nobody now knows how Ajax is doing, less than two weeks before the start of the Champions League against Liverpool”, Kieft concludes. “While Ten Hag has access to his selection for almost three months, almost all of his purchases, Ajax has a relatively easy competition program without European obligations.”

Ajax started the season with victories over Sparta Rotterdam (0-1), RKC Waalwijk (3-0) and Vitesse (2-1), before losing to FC Groningen (1-0) last weekend. After the international match, the Ten Hag team awaits a home game against sc Heerenveen. For four days, Liverpool will be the first opponent in the group stage of the Champions League.
