VVV-Venlo hopes to keep Georgios Giakoumakis until the end of the season. The striker is currently the top scorer of the Eredivisie with sixteen goals and has aroused foreign interest, but technical manager Stan Valckx tells the Greek Sport 24 that VVV does not just cooperate with a departure. The club has recently rejected a bid from Asia, Valckx announced.

“For the time being we have received one offer for Giakoumakis, which came from Asia. We rejected that offer because we were not satisfied with the financial conditions”, the technical manager said. He debunks rumors from Turkey about Besiktas’ interest in Giakoumakis. This week, Turkish media reported an opening bid of EUR 1.5 million from Besiktas. “We have not received an offer from Besiktas and I know nothing about the interest of that club.”

“We hope to keep Giakoumakis until the end of the season. That is our goal. Georgios is a good, intelligent boy who knows what he wants. He is having a good time here. He has already told me that his choice to coming here was the best choice of his career, “said Valckx, who admits that a club like VVV will have to cooperate with a bid of a certain amount. “I cannot name a specific amount. We would require a different amount from a Premier League club than from a Cyprus club.”

Giakoumakis still has a contract until the summer of 2022 at the Covebo Stadium – De Koel, with an option for another year. Last Wednesday he produced another four-hit in the away game against VVV-Venlo (1-4). A few days after that match, Valckx answered The Limburger all that he has to take into account a transfer from the Eredivisie top scorer. “I hope he will not leave us until the summer. We want to maintain our position. But a club like VVV does not have the luxury to just refuse a very good offer.”
