Manchester City has won against Arsenal in the Premier League for the seventh time in a row. In their own Etihad Stadium, Pep Guardiola’s team triumphed 1-0, thanks to a goal by Raheem Sterling halfway through the first half. After the break, the football of Guardiola’s team was less, but Arsenal did not object to that. With the victory, Manchester City are recovering after disappointing results against Leicester City (2-5 defeat) and Leeds United (1-1). Nevertheless, there was no question of an attractive match between Guardiola’s team and that of his former student Mikel Arteta.

Josep Guardiola awarded a starting place to Manchester City, but the most notable name in the line-up was that of Sergio Agüero. The attacker played his last game on June 22 against Burnley (5-0 win), when he suffered a serious knee injury. Opposite his return was the absence of the injured Kevin De Bruyne. Manchester City have won the last six games against Arsenal in the Premier League and took the first step halfway through the first half to continue that series. Agüero sprinted through the ashes of the field and served Phil Foden, who cut out Héctor Bellerín and fired on target. His bet was turned by Bernd Leno, who, however, was unable to control the ball. This allowed Raheem Sterling to take advantage of the rebound: 1-0.

Would Sergio Aguero also do this to a male linesman? ??

Overall, Manchester City did not run into problems in the first half. Arsenal’s danger was limited to a few moments, such as a bet by Bukayo Saka after a one-two with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Goalkeeper Ederson tipped the ball away from the top right corner. In the opening phase of the second half, Arsenal had quite a lot of ball possession, but could not put Manchester City in trouble. A header from Nicolas Pépé ended up in the hands of Ederson; it took until the last fifteen minutes for Arsenal to become dangerous again.

Nine minutes before the end, shortly after David Luiz almost scored an own goal when handling a cross, Pépé set up for a free kick from a considerable distance. The attacker curled the ball just wide of Ederson’s goal. The visitors often went wrong on the last pass, so the number of goal attempts was very limited. At Arsenal, Deadline Day signing Thomas Partey made his debut as a substitute, but Manchester City successfully defended the lead and have now collected seven points from the first four games. Arsenal has played five games and scored nine points.
