Sparta Rotterdam trainer Henk Fraser is impressed by the game of Feyenoord mercenary Wouter Burger. The midfielder seems to be able to prepare for a base place against sc Heerenveen on Sunday, as Bryan Smeets is injured and Adil Auassar is sitting out a suspension. Fraser sees Burger similar to former Real Madrid player Fernando Redondo.

“I think he is a fantastic football player”, Fraser is quoted as saying RTV Rijnmond. Nineteen-year-old Burger is hired from Feyenoord this season and made his debut against ADO Den Haag in the TOTO KNVB Cup. “You should never compare. I don’t, but he reminds me a bit of Fernando Redondo. I thought that was a fantastic football player to watch. Burger also has a bit of that style, if he is in top shape I think he can do a lot for us. “Redondo is a former Argentina international. He had his best years as a controlling midfielder at Real Madrid, where he spent between 1994 and 2000. After that he played for AC Milan until 2004.

Burger came on Wednesday evening in the extension. Why didn’t he start from the base? “That has to do with how he came in. He had just had corona and I had to get to know him, even though you do have an image. But it also has to do with getting used to the team and his playing style, ”says Fraser. “Wouter is on the right track, I must say. I still have to think about whether it will happen against Heerenveen. But I am happy that he is taking the first steps back into the fight. ”

Just like Burger, goalkeeper Maduka Okoye also made his debut on Wednesday. He was preferred to Benjamin van Leer in the cup match. Fraser was pleased with the performance of the keeper. “He is a new player to me, relatively unknown. You want to see that first. But he has sent out a signal, that is clear. “Van Leer has so far gained confidence in the Eredivisie.” Benjamin has had to show it a number of games, Okoye is based on that one game. So that may give the proportions again. It’s up to me to make a choice. “
