Cristiano Ronaldo signed on Wednesday evening in the game for the Suppercoppa with Napoli (2-0) for the 760th goal of his illustrious career. By some counts, the 35-year-old Portuguese is now the all-time top scorer in world football. Ronaldo broke Josef Bican’s old record, who would have scored 759 goals between 1931 and 1955. However, there are sounds a day later that Ronaldo’s record is not valid.

Bican, who died in 2001, caused a furore with mainly Slavia Prague, will receive support from the Czech Football Association this Thursday. It is stated in an extensive statement that the total number of goals (759) of the former attacker is not correct. Bican, born in the Austro-Hungarian Empire, is said to have made many more hits. “The history and statistics committee of the Czech Football Association has counted all the goals of the legendary Josef Bican again and we can therefore confirm that he has scored a total of 821 goals in official matches. This is the most accurate count of all his hits” , the Czech Football Association said in the statement.

“Cristiano Ronaldo is therefore not yet the top scorer of all time,” said Jaroslav Kolar, head of the history and statistics committee of the Czech Football Association. “He still has work to do to actually break the record.” According to the calculations of Kolar and his associates, the Juventus attacker therefore needs 62 more goals to break Bican’s decades-old record. Ronaldo has not yet responded to the claim from the Czech Republic.

The Ronaldo issue is similar to that of Lionel Messi and Pelé. The Barcelona forward broke the Brazilian legend’s record in December, bringing his total for one club to 643 goals, while Pelé finished with 643 hits, according to statistics. However, Santos, the club he served as a player for eighteen years, soon came up with a different reading. According to the Brazilian club, the three-time world champion scored 1,091 goals: 643 goals in official matches and another 448 in friendly matches. At Messi, the goals in practice pots were not included.
