Barcelona has made a profit of 98 million euros over the 2021/22 season, the club announces through the official channels. The Catalans also indicate that they expect to make even more profit over the coming season. Barca received four financial injections last summer, which eventually allowed the club to register all signings for La Liga.

Barcelona closed last season with a turnover of 1,017 million euros and a profit of 98 million euros. In the current season, the club works with a budget of 1,255 million euros and the expectation is that the profit will also be higher, about 274 million euros. Barcelona sold another 24.5 percent of production company Barça Studios in August. That industry controls the audiovisual production in Barcelona. With this, the club was able to add one hundred million euros and received a financial injection for the fourth time in a short time.

It also resulted in more wiggle room in the transfer market. Barcelona was eventually able to register all summer signings for LaLiga. Barcelona strengthened itself this summer with Raphinha (58 million euros), Jules Koundé (50 million euros), Robert Lewandowski (45 million euros) and the transfer-free Franck Kessié and Andreas Christensen, who came over from AC Milan and Chelsea respectively. In addition, Sergi Roberto and Ousmane Dembele recently extended their contracts, so they are also seen as new players.

Barcelona also took an important step towards financial recovery at the end of June. The Catalans sold ten percent of LaLiga’s television rights to investment fund Sixth Street. In exchange for a 25-year ownership of those rights, the lender immediately invested 207.5 million euros in the club. It was the start of a project that the club approved internally by voting earlier in June.

For Barcelona, the Sixth Street deal meant light at the end of a dark tunnel. The club has consistently reported red numbers for the past three years, including the record loss of 481 million euros over the 2020/21 season. “We are activating economic levers and executing our patient, sustainable and efficient strategy to strengthen the club’s financial base,” said President Joan Laporta in an official statement of the partnership.
