Feyenoord knows its opponent in the quarterfinals of the Europa League. The team of trainer Arne Slot is waiting for another diptych with AS Roma, as the draw in Nyon, Switzerland, showed on Friday afternoon. The two teams also met in the final of the Conference League last year. Feyenoord starts on Thursday, April 13 with a home game and plays the return in Rome a week later.
Feyenoord has had an excellent European campaign so far. Slot’s team finished first in Group F with FC Midtjylland, Lazio and Sturm Graz and was therefore allowed to skip the intermediate round of the Europa League. In the eighth finals, Shakhtar Donetsk was settled over two matches. After a 1-1 draw in Ukraine, a true goal show followed on Thursday evening: 7-1. It has now been announced that the team from Rotterdam can compete against AS Roma in the quarterfinals.
A diptych with a Spanish opponent awaits Erik ten Hag and Manchester United again. After Barcelona and Real Betis, the English superpower now takes on Sevilla, which managed to eliminate PSV earlier this tournament. The other quarter-finals are Juventus – Sporting Portugal and Bayer Leverkusen – Union Saint-Gilles. If Feyenoord pushes through to the semi-finals, it will meet the winner of the diptych between Bayer Leverkusen and Union Sint-Gillis.
An open draw was used for the quarterfinals, which means that all clubs can meet. No exceptions will be made for clubs from the same country. For Feyenoord, however, this is a rule that does not apply, as Ajax and PSV are already out of the tournament and AZ plays in the Conference League. Italy is best represented with two clubs (Juventus and AS Roma). The quarterfinals will be played on Thursday, April 13 and Thursday, April 20.
