Pontus Almqvist from FK Rostov is in the picture at FC Utrecht as a direct reinforcement, so report The Telegraph and the General Newspaper† Foreign players in the Russian league can leave until the end of the season due to a special FIFA arrangement, prompted by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

After the loss of Henk Veerman and Naoki Maeda due to injuries, FC Utrecht is looking for a new impulse in the vanguard. According to Swedish media, Almqvist, 22, has already made his choice for FC Utrecht, while the General Newspaper writes that FC Utrecht hopes to have convinced the left-footed attacker to make the switch until the summer. What will happen after the season is still uncertain at the moment.

FC Utrecht also inquired about the possibility to temporarily embrace Gyrano Kerk again, but his return was unrealistic. The attacker made the switch to Lokomotiv Moscow last summer. FIFA’s regulation has a deadline: players from the Russian and Ukrainian leagues must register with a new club by April 7.

FK Rostov paid IFK Norrköping in October 2020 an amount of four million euros for Almqvist, who signed a five-year contract and became a basic force in Russia. Like the other foreign players of Rostov, he decided to return to his homeland after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
