It Eindhovens Dagblad expects that PSV will initially look internally for a successor for John de Jong. The technical director left the Eindhoven team last week after he no longer felt the support of the Supervisory Board and it is now up to them, in collaboration with general director Marcel Brands, to appoint a new ‘td’.

Rik Elfrink, who follows PSV on behalf of the ED, thinks that the Brabant club initially looks at what kind of meat it has in the cockpit. The names of Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink and Ernest Faber could pass in review. Vennegoor of Hesselink is currently technical manager in Eindhoven and acted as a link between De Jong and the youth academy. He actually wanted to show solidarity with De Jong and also leave, but he convinced him to stay at PSV. Faber has already held many positions in the Philips Stadium and recently followed a ‘special course’ for a management position.

Calling in external expertise is also an option, although Huub Stevens wonders what is available. The former PSV trainer, who was already on the board of Schalke 04, thinks that potential candidates have also received the situation in Eindhoven. “Perhaps a new man is shivering, because he has doubts about the position of the supervisory board. What can I and what can I do, a newcomer will ask himself and must agree well internally at PSV.”

It alienated the Harter Hund that De Jong’s departure came out of the blue. “I don’t think it can ever be determined by one person, at least not by Robert van der Wallen on his own (Brands reported that De Jong himself had resigned, ed.). I think it has been supported more widely and it is also strange that the others in the club would not have known about it. In the supervisory board, Hans van Breukelen’s judgment should of course weigh heavily, because he is the one with football expertise.” Stevens expects that he himself will in any case not be in the picture for a position at PSV, not as director and not as supervisory director.
