Eintracht Frankfurt defender Martin Hinteregger has immediately put an end to his career. The 67-time international of Austria recently became discredited after he organized a football tournament in his native village Sirnitz together with a far-right politician.

The FPÖ politician Heinrich Sickl helped organize the football tournament organized by Hinteregger in Sirnitz. Hinteregger refused to condemn Sickl despite his far-right connections. Instead, he attacked a journalist who revealed the connections in an interview with Sky Sports at. In 3.5 years, Hinteregger grew into a crowd favorite near Frankfurt. Last season he won the Europa League with Eintracht by beating Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s Rangers on penalties.
