Xavi Simons would like to return to Barcelona, Adrián Sánchez reports in the YouTube program Mas Que Pelotas. The journalist – affiliated with the Catalan television channel 8tv – claims that the eighteen-year-old midfielder of Paris Saint-Germain made this request to his agent Mino Raiola. Raiola subsequently reported to Barcelona in vain.

Simons played in Barcelona’s youth academy from 2010 to 2019, until PSG took him away from Catalonia. In general, the youth international of the Dutch plays at les Parisiens his matches in the Under-19, although he also regularly makes his appearance on the training field with the main force. However, Simons would now see too little perspective to break through in the PSG first team in the long term.

Last season Simons was part of the match selection several times and he came to two official matches, as a substitute against Caen in the Coupe de France and against Strasbourg in the Ligue 1. During this season, however, Simons was never on the bench and trainer Mauricio Pochettino would mainly prefer a different type of midfielder. After the arrival of Georginio Wijnaldum, PSG’s midfield has only become fuller during the last transfer window.

Partly because of this, Simons would have set his sights on a return to Barcelona. He sees that Gavi, Ansu Fati, Nico González and Óscar Mingueza under Ronald Koeman have moved on from the youth academy to the first team. Sánchez claims that Simons dreams of making minutes in the main force at Barcelona. Simons has submitted the request to return to Raiola and his agent has subsequently investigated the possibilities.

Despite Raiola’s excellent relationship with Barcelona president Joan Laporta, the Catalan board has not been convinced. It has not been forgotten in Barcelona that Simons chose a move to PSG two years ago over a longer stay in Spain. Moreover, Simons is not immediately seen as a reinforcement for the first team of Barcelona due to the presence of Nico González, Gavi and Pedri.
