Cristiano Ronaldo has reacted to his sudden departure from Manchester United. Almost immediately after the announcement of the news of the split with Manchester United, the Portuguese made himself heard. “I love Manchester United and the fans,” the Portuguese said on social media. Earlier on Tuesday, United announced that it would end its partnership with Ronaldo with immediate effect.

Ronaldo says that showing love for the club and his fans will never change. “It feels like the right time to look for a new challenge. I wish Manchester United all the best.” The superstar is preparing with Portugal for the start of the World Cup, which starts against Ghana on Saturday for the southern Europeans. The decision to end the collaboration comes shortly after the much-discussed interview that Ronaldo recently gave to journalist Piers Morgan of TalkTV.

In that conversation, the veteran was very critical of, among others, manager Erik ten Hag, training complex Carrington and former players Gary Neville and Wayne Rooney. The Guardian already announced last week that Ronaldo no longer had to report to Manchester United after the World Cup in Qatar. Furthermore, ‘appropriate steps’ were announced. Ronaldo still had a contract at Old Trafford until the summer of 2023.

From Portugal’s training camp in Qatar, Ronaldo gave a brief response to the damning interview he gave on Monday. “I speak when I want,” the veteran began. “I don’t have to think about what other people think about it. Everyone (within the Portuguese national team, ed.) knows who I am and what I stand for.” He therefore suppresses the rumor that Ronaldo would no longer be able to go through a door with Bruno Fernandes – his teammate at Manchester United. “That was a joke. His plane arrived late and I asked if he came by boat. That’s it.”
