Peter Bosz saw his last chance of success this season go up in smoke on Thursday evening. The trainer was very painfully set aside with Olympique Lyon in the Europa League by an effectively operating West Ham Untied: 0-3. The first leg had ended in 1-1. Bosz was already under enormous pressure due to the poor performance in France and could just find his Waterloo in West Ham. In the final phase, the French director expressly sought Jean-Michel Aulas, the chairman of Lyon, who will make a decision about whether Bosz will stay on.

Lyon was out of luck after five minutes when Karl Toko Ekambi got rid of West Ham defender Craig Dawson and hit the post. Opportunities then came back and forth. Jarrod Bowen got a huge on behalf of West Ham but went wide. At the end of the first half, the English struck twice. In the 38th minute Dawson headed in a sharp corner, Declan Rice picked up a falling ball moments later and shot it in from sixteen meters: 0-2.

A sledgehammer blow for Lyon, which immediately received the final blow in the second half. West Ham played well under the great pressure from Lyon in the 48th minute, which overlooked Bowen in the ashes of the field. The midfielder was able to continue like this and finished it well with a placed shot: 0-3. Bosz sent his men into the field after the break with very attacking team spirit, but West Ham kept their ranks closed, also because Moussa Dembélé completed wide and Tete slipped wide a little later at the far post.
