Jean-Paul Boëtius has announced through a post on Instagram that his operation was successful. On Thursday, the news came out that a tumor had been discovered during a urological examination in the testicle of the 28-year-old Hertha BSC winger. The former Feyenoord player also thanks everyone for all the encouraging words.

“The operation is complete and successful. Thank you for the heartwarming and uplifting words. I feel very blessed and privileged because of you. Special thanks to Hertha BSC and the medical team for all the help,” said Boëtius, who allows himself to be photographed from the hospital bed with his signature smile. Last summer, the cheerful Rotterdammer did an internship at Feyenoord for a few weeks to get fit for the new season. At the beginning of August he signed with Hertha.

Opposite BILD teammate Deyovaisio Zeefuik said on Friday that the news about Boëtius has hit hard. “It was a difficult day. Jean-Paul said he didn’t know how to feel. He didn’t cry, but I cried. It dragged me along. He is my friend, he has my sympathy. Football is not the top priority right now. Now we hope that the tumor is not malignant and that it can come back soon. I will be with him and support him.”

Earlier, technical director Fredi Bobic already announced on the club website that the club fully supports Boëtius. “However bitter the news is at first, we are full of hope and confidence that Jean-Paul will return healthy and as soon as possible. He will have all the support from us on the way to his return.”
