Barcelona has released more information about the injuries Memphis Depay and Frenkie de Jong sustained in the shirt of the Dutch national team. Both players are struggling with a hamstring injury, although that of the playmaker from Arkel appears to be a lot less serious. The Catalan club does not dare to make any statements about the recovery period of both Depay and De Jong.

In the away game against Poland, which the the Dutch squad won 0-2, De Jong was already substituted at half time as a precaution. During the second half, Depay also fell out, when after a duel and a knee on his thigh, he lay on the field with a painful face. Further investigation in Barcelona has revealed that both players are struggling with a hamstring injury. In the case of De Jong, it is a strain, while Depay has an injury to the ‘two-headed thigh muscle’. The seriousness of the latter injury remains unclear.

Barcelona does not dare to make statements about the absence of the Dutch two and how long that will take. They say that “the recovery will show when the players will be available for matches again”. De Jong’s strain will probably have recovered faster than Depay’s injury, although it is not entirely clear what is wrong with the attacker from Moordrecht.

Getting fit for the World Cup, which starts at the end of November, should be feasible for Depay. De Jong is going to get that, ice and back, anyway. Louis van Gaal, the national coach who will travel to Qatar with the Dutch national team, has already stated that he will only include fit players in his selection. The player group may consist of 26 players and normally the two the Dutch customers from Barcelona will be part of that. They have both been part of the selection for years.
