Barcelona must watch with sadness how the Catalan infirmary has continued to fill up during the current international match period. Barça saw Memphis Depay and Frenkie de Jong injured on Thursday evening during the won Nations League match between the Netherlands and Poland (0-2). Ronald Araújo and Jules Koundé also suffered nasty muscle injuries during their international match for Uruguay and France respectively.

Depay and De Jong had to leave the the Dutch squad after the duo suffered injuries against Poland. De Jong was replaced by Marten de Roon at halftime due to complaints in his thigh. The same fate applies to Depay as to De Jong: the Barcelona attacker also suffers from his thigh and was replaced by Vincent Janssen after 52 minutes. It will be a big downer for the 28-year-old attacker who, due to his reserve role at Barça, was looking forward to the duels with the Dutch national team. The the Dutch squad will play against Belgium in the Johan Cruijff ArenA on Sunday evening in the context of the Nations League without the Barcelona pair.

It FIFA virus – injuries football players suffer after playing for their country during an international match – has caused even more victims for Barcelona. Araújo had to stop the fight on behalf of Uruguay within a minute during an exhibition game with Iran (0-1 loss) due to a groin injury. According to Spanish media, the 23-year-old mandekker will be out of circulation for at least six weeks. Koundé injured his hamstring against Austria (2-0 win). The French international is almost certainly out of action for three weeks.
