Anthony Martial will not finish the season at Manchester United, Fabrizio Romano reports. According to the transfer market expert, the 26-year-old attacker will be rented by Sevilla until the end of the season. Martial was not assured of a starting spot at United and had his sights on a temporary transfer to the current number two of La Liga for some time. Sevilla will pay the attacker’s salary until June.

Martial came on Saturday in the final phase of the won Premier League game with West Ham United (1-0) as a substitute, but United manager Ralf Rangnick confirmed earlier that the attacker wanted to leave. The short raid against the Hammers will be his last appearance for United for now, as Romano says Martial will land in Spain on Tuesday afternoon to complete his temporary transfer to Seville.

Romano reports that technical director Monchi has spent two months closing the deal with United. It would be a rental deal without an option to buy. According to marca Negotiations have come to a head after Martial has significantly lowered his salary requirements. Sevilla will pay the attacker between five and six million euros over the next four months, just under half the salary he currently earns in Manchester.

Martial did not go further than 367 minutes at United this season, partly due to injuries. His agent said in December that finishing the season at Old Trafford was not an option for his client. For a week and a half, the relationship between Martial and manager Rangnick has been under pressure. The German coach assured after the points split against Aston Villa (2-2) that he would not have access to the attacker because he had refused to be part of the match selection for the game in Birmingham.

“Martial didn’t want to be part of the selection,” Rangnick said after the press conference. “He would normally have been in the match selection, but he refused. That is why he had not traveled with us yesterday (Friday, January 14, ed.). Martial’s reaction followed quickly via social media. “I will never refuse to play a game for Manchester United,” the attacker emphasized on his Instagram. “In seven years I have never shown no respect for the club and the fans and I never will.”
