Alfred Schreuder enjoyed Antony during Ajax’s home match against FC Groningen (6-1 win) on Sunday afternoon, the Ajax coach said during the press conference afterwards. The Brazilian had it on his hips and spoiled the audience with various swinging actions. Schreuder did give the winger an important message for the second half at half time.

Schreuder thought that the 22-year-old attacker played a great game, but also saw before halftime that Antony occasionally did his best to entertain the audience. “I did tell him at halftime that I think he should continue to perform his actions functionally. You don’t have to take every crosspass on your heel from me. If you can do that, that’s a plus, but you should especially use your technique in the moments when you’re having a hard time.”

Schreuder thinks it is important that Antony knows when he can use his actions. “In the final third he can let his creativity speak and he can do what he wants. That is also its quality. Only for that you also have seventy meters in which you just have to play business. There you just have to let that ball go quickly from side to side, so that you can get into dangerous situations.”

After Cyril Ngonge’s surprising equalizer, Antony gave Ajax the lead again in a beautiful way. The Brazilian dribbled in from the right and shot the ball hard into the corner. The Brazilian was able to add an assist to Steven Bergwijn’s 3-1. Antony was linked several times this summer with a transfer to Manchester United, but now seems to be staying in Amsterdam.
