Ajax and Club América have reached an oral agreement on the transfer of Jorge Sánchez, journalist Mike Verweij reported via Twitter. The team from Amsterdam pay a fixed transfer fee of five million euros for the 24-year-old right back. In addition, the Mexican club can earn another five hundred thousand euros in bonuses from Sánchez. América has also stipulated a resale percentage.

The Mexican club did not want to let Sánchez go at first, but the negotiations went according to The Telegraph still quite flexible. Ajax initially wanted to pay only four million for the right back, after which a counter-offer of six million followed. According to sources around the Amsterdam club, the deal ultimately came to a middle ground: five million euros. The Mexican club will hope that Sánchez will develop well in Amsterdam in the coming years, as that can yield some extra financially.

Sánchez has been dreaming of playing in Europe for years and was eager to make the switch to Ajax. In the coming week, he will definitely embark on his desired adventure. The right-back has played 150 official games for Club América so far, scoring twice and providing eight assists. In 2019, Sánchez made his debut for the Mexico national team, for which he played 21 caps so far. In that, the defender was accurate once. Sánchez is originally a right back, but can also play on the left wing.

At Ajax, Sánchez will compete with Devyne Rensch, Sean Klaiber and Youri Regeer. The latter seems to have been definitively transferred to the main force this season. Unlike many other youth players, Regeer was assigned a fixed jersey number last Wednesday. The eighteen-year-old midfielder is very multifunctional and made his debut last season as a right back against PEC Zwolle (3-0 win). Regeer was also right back in the final away game at Vitesse (2-2). Furthermore, it seems that the arrival of Sánchez means a definitive end for Klaiber at Ajax. The Amsterdam club would be open to his departure.
